Many waterfront owners would like to have a dock, but are in a jurisdiction that requires a dock permit. Often these permits can be expensive, difficult to acquire, or both. However, in most locations, a waterfront property owner is allowed to pull a boat up on shore and leave it there indefinitely. So, one solution is to buy a boat that works well like Floating Dock, or a dock that can be licensed like a boat. In order to qualify as being a boat it should be an approved vessel according to the guidelines of the U.S. Coast Guard. Put simply it should be a boat from a safety and licensing standpoint. In some jurisdictions it might be necessary that your vessel be certified by the National Marine Manufacturers Association.
This procedure will even work for lakes and waterfront properties that do not allow floating docks whatsoever. By mooring a dock which is disguised being a boat and installing a gangway now you have in effect a dock even though a governing body would recognize your dock officially as a vessel.
One of the leading edge methods to construct a boat that can be utilized for a dock is by using what is called “Rolling Barrel Technologies” the utilization of 55 gallon polyethylene plastic drums because the flotation system. The main reason Rolling Barrel Technology is very effective to get a dock/boat set up is as it is light in weight therefore it is easily moved with something less than a 10 horse power outboard motor. One other reason is that the 55 gallon drums are tremendously buoyant and are as stable as Jetski Docks with a similar dimensions. Typically these floating docks are available in widths of 4 to 17 feet and possess lengths from 8 to 32 feet. For your dock surface, any common deck material can be utilized.
Often docks use pilings to hold them in position. However, a permit may be necessary for the pilings. Instead of pilings, the final in the dock can be anchored set up with two anchors that cross underneath the dock. In this way the anchor lines are taken care of of boats pulling up to the dock. When there is some tidal movement, attaching the anchor with mostly chain instead vhprii rope can minimize drifting.
There are two other benefits of using floating dock of the type.
1) The fee. Typically these rolling floating dock setups will likely be less expensive when compared to a typical dock setup.
2) The portability. Several commercial Inflatable Gym Mat have highway rated wheel and axle systems which allows the dock to get linked to a typical trailer hitch on the car and towed out from the launch ramp on onto the highway. This works great for seasonal situations in which the water freezes during the winter time.
